The State of the World's Kelp Forests Report and associated publication was recently released at the sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16). This report was strategically developed and released at COP 16 to provide world leaders and people with a status update on global conservation trends shaping kelp forest ecosystems. This report compiles the latest research and data on the health of kelp forests worldwide, offering insights into the current state of protection and restoration efforts. It also highlights the cultural and socio-economic importance of these ecosystems and the urgent need for global conservation efforts to meet the targets set by the Kelp Forest Challenge and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework including the inclusion of kelp forests in 30x30 targets.
